Inspired by the book Advice from my 80-year old self, I’m compiling a list of things I tell my kids that I also need to tell myself. I suspect I would have much more peace if I followed my own advice.
Yesterday was election day. Whether you submitted a ballot or not, you still have a chance to vote. How? Every day is voting day. Every day we cast our votes for what we deem important. How we spend our money, where we go, what we watch and who we spend time with are all votes.
How will you vote today?
There are a lot of things I can make today. There are a lot of things I can do. There are a lot of ways I can spend my time. But most important of them all is to make today meaningful.
Here are a few ways I can make today meaningful: hug, laugh, encourage, kiss, smile, give, rest, play, work, nurture, love and listen.
How do you make your days meaningful?
There are times in life when we are offered the chance to begin again, like starting a new job, moving to a new home or getting married. My new beginning is a little bundle of joy named BabyFish.
Over the past few months, PapaFish, KidFish and I have been getting rid of our belongings like it’s going out of style.
Here is a partial list of things that we’ve either sold, given away, donated or trashed:
– 1 large metal filing cabinet
– 2 desks
– 2 floor lamps
– half my wardrobe
– kitchen gadgets
– 3 boxes of books
– window curtains
– exercise equipment
– kids clothes & toys
– 4 large boxes of miscellaneous household items
– art/craft supplies
– 3 boxes of old paperwork
– expired pantry items
– old magazines
It’s been a month, and to be honest, I don’t miss any of it. In fact, I’m really enjoying the space, both physical and mental.
I used to think that I needed more space for my stuff, but now I know that I need less stuff for my space.
It’s been a little quiet here the past few months, and there’s a very good reason. In 7 weeks, life as we know it will change forever. We’ve have had 33 weeks to prepare for the change, but it’s the kind of change that no one can ever be truly ready for. If you haven’t figured it out, 7 weeks + 33 weeks = 40 weeks, the time it take for a baby to be born! In mid June, we’ll finally get to meet our little man face to face. We are so excited!
